Nixon’s
Nixon
by Russell Lees Directed
by Rebecca Taylor
(Regional
Premiere)
It is the night before President Nixon is to announce
his resignation, and he has summoned Henry Kissinger. Nixon is
willing to concoct any twisted plot to stay in office. Kissinger
wants him to go. As the two of them discuss options, they
revisit the climatic events of their administration and
impersonate a dazzling array of characters from Breshnev and Mao
to Kennedy. This timely political satire features outrageous
comedy and a frightening look at the inside of Presidential
politics.
“…hilarious as it is hair-raising…
both a serious work of the imagination and a fully
realized political satire” –New York Times
“The laughs come thick and fast
throughout …Lee's lively script makes this a
thought-provoking, sparkling outing.” –BBC

The
Gift of the Magi
by Robert Ruffin Directed
by Steven Breese
(VPT Original)
Set in New York City and Charlottesville, Virginia in
the early 1900’s, The Gift of the Magi is a holiday
treat for the entire family. Jim and Della are poor and
desperate. The rent is coming due and Christmas is on its way.
It’s up to a watch and a set of combs to make a miracle and
remind them that love is what makes the world go round. Back
by popular demand, this first-ever, full-length adaptation of
O. Henry’s classic American tale of love and giving is a
delight for holiday audiences from ages one to ninety-nine.
“…a dramatic duet of tender
romance.” –Hampton Roads Magazine

Full
Moon Over Montmartre
by Billy Doswell Directed
by Robert Ruffin
(Virginia Premiere)
Frank and Sadie are perfectly in love. He’s
just retired as a professor of Shakespeare and she is
entertaining dreams of finally kissing him in Paris under
the full moon of Montmarte. Plane tickets are bought, the
hotel is booked and then… This Virginia Premiere by
Richmond playwright Billy Doswell is a powerful,
bittersweet romantic tragedy about trust, betrayal and the
challenges of Alzheimer’s.
“… a moving and poignant touch of
reality that will likely tap most of us
on the shoulder in the future…” –Backstage
the audience was
transfixed… sat motionless… finally stood and
applauded the bare stage.” –Asheville

YODER BARN THEATRE
APRIL 8–MAY 16, 2009
Kuru
by
Josh C. Manheimer (Regional
Premiere)
What happens when Dr. Arthur Roman’s research
of a deadly disease is interrupted by his mid-west
sweetheart’s culinary ambitions? Pandemonium breaks
loose in Papua New Guinea. War is proclaimed, a cooking
school begun, a new Goddess is discovered and a Nobel
Prize hangs in the balance. This regional premiere is a
goofy spoof–just like Gary Larson’s The Far Side
come to life.
“Slick one-liners and easy,
culture-clash wackiness.” –The Dallas
Morning News
“A savage mix of humor
and horror.” –Boston Globe
